About Us
Lois Burnett, daughter of the south, was born and raised in Arkansas. She is the a mother of two young men and the proud grandmother of one energetic grandson. When she isn’t engaged in her passion for writing, she also keeps busy by remodeling homes or designing jewelry.
Her passion for history was the catalyst that sparked her dream to write children’s books on African American inventors. That dream became reality with the publication of the Mrs. Townsend’s Class: Magical Journeys in history series, written for grades 3 through 6. While the books are educational and fun, her goal also included creating stories that contained valuable life lessons such as individualism, teamwork, and responsibility. As a result, she placed great emphasis on embracing those virtues to impress upon her young readers that they already possess what it takes to be creative and innovative. Another great aspect of the books is the interaction between the characters and the students. The series is also aligned with the disciplines of a STEM education.
Lois has an Associate Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University where she studied creative writing and communication. She has appeared in the following publications: SwagHer, NextonScene and VoyageATL. Lois has served as editor of her former employer’s diversity newsletter and facilitator over the diversity training.
She is happiest doing book readings at elementary schools, children’s museums, and libraries. Being able to interact and share the stories with the students one on one is a major source of encouragement for her. The children’s energy and desire to learn is a delightful experience both for the author and the reader.
